Governor: First Round: Istook tops poll in GOP primary

The latest Oklahoma Poll finds 5th District U.S. Rep Ernest Istook comfortably leading three opponents for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, but an unusually large number of undecided voters could lead to some surprises in the July 25 primary.

A statewide survey of 503 Republicans likely to vote, conducted July 8-11 by Oklahoma City-based Soonerpoll.com for the Tulsa World and KOTV Channel 6, found 36 percent intend to vote for Istook. Ten percent supported Tulsa businessman Bob Sullivan, 6.6 percent backed Jim Evanoff of Mustang and 1.8 percent said they would vote for Tulsa state Sen. James Williamson.

More than 45 percent, though, said they hadn't decided.
